Innovative and creative startup XtraCash, has been announced as winners of the third edition of the Local Startup Investment Summit(LSIPS).

Out of 11 startups, five teams displayed potentials that proved them capable and ready for the market and XtraCash was crowned the overall winner.

The winners, Miss Benedicta Arhin Forson and Miss Dzidzor Kumassah, aim to support freelance web developers by bridging the gap between them and employers by curbing unemployment with the help of their platform.

They also seek to promote and sharpen the Ghanaian skills and talent, reduce hand-to-mouth style of living and eradicate the issue of geographical immobility.

Speaking to digitaltimes.africa, Miss Forson said “ COVID-19 has taught us a big lesson and that is the solution is technology. Our platform seeks to promote the awareness of digitalisation and also to address the issue of geographical immobility while you earn extra income.”

Using her personal experience as an example, the founder explained how she got the opportunity to work with Yison Hub, a technological company in WA but could not accept the offer because of the distance.

“Our platform is also time-favorable for our users in that an individual can take two or more jobs with their corresponding time frames and work at their own pace from the comfort of their homes” Miss Kumassah added.

The jury was led by Ammishaddai Ofori, Programs manager of Ghana Innovation Hub, Harriet Ofori Attah, Managing Associate of Trust Venture Partners and Daniel Bennin, the Technical Associate of Ghana Tech Lab.

According to Daniel Bennin, they were looking out for startups with innovative, feasible and easily implementable ideas that could stand the test of time. He explained that they picked startups who participated in the training throughout the entire six weeks and had their assignments completed and with good grades.

As part of the reward package, the startup will have the opportunity to progress to the incubation stage where they will be trained by resource personnels and mentors to be equipped with design thinking and business skills.

They will be joined by House Hunt, the first runner up of the LSIPS during the incubation stage. Their startup is focused on helping students with their platform to get easy and affordable accommodation and also protect them from fraudulent and exploitative house agents.
