Ghana: Potato Processing Factory Commissioned

The Casa de Ropa potato factory was commissioned by Ghana’s President Nana Akuffo Addo on the 21st of August in the Central region of the country.

The company processes locally produced Orange Fresh Sweet Potato into puree which is further transformed into biscuits, bread, crisps and chips using advanced production technology.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President highlighted the impact of the company on the community in which it has been built, the President noted that 1,150 jobs had directly and indirectly created by the company.

According to him, Casa de Ropa has also been granted a financing facility of about ¢14 million by EXIM Bank in support of its projects.

Moreover, he commended Casa de Ropa for the progress they had made and also providing employment to a large number of women.

“Another milestone achieved by the factory is the fact that women currently constitute more than 80 percent of the workforce, as a result of a deliberate policy to empower women. As the African Union Gender Champion, I commend management for this decision,” he added.

The President indicated that the factory, gradually, is positioning itself as one of the most innovative food processing companies in the country, with the potential to expand its operations to take advantage of the domestic market for processed food as well as the African market.

Casa de Ropa is a food processing company that was founded by Ebenezer Obeng-Baffoe in 2014.The company produces and supplies orange flesh sweet potatoes (OFSP) crops and food globally.

It also defines itself as a job creation outlet by helping farmers grow better crops and maintain strong environmental compliance through technological innovation, science based decisions and independent professional agronomy consulting.

Additionally, the agribusiness firm also aims to be a Centre of Excellence by collaborating with universities and other agricultural institutions to create a research and knowledge-sharing platform between academia and the industry.

Earlier this year, Casa de Ropa announced that it had cleared and developed 660 acres of its 1000 acre allocated land for the production of potatoes.
