Much like the audio-focused social media platform Clubhouse, Twitter Spaces are live audio-only conversations. Twitter Spaces aren't necessarily ephemeral; you have the option to record a Space if you want to preserve the activity. Here's how to record a Space and then download the audio file to your computer or share it with others.

How to record and share a Twitter Space audio recording

By default, Twitter Spaces are not recorded — you need to enable recording when you start a Space. When the Space ends, you can share a link to the recording via tweet or DM. But you can also save the audio file as well.

  1. In the Twitter app for iOS or Android, start a Twitter Space in the usual way. Tap and hold the Plus sign and then tap the Space icon.

Start a Twitter Space by tapping the Space icon.

  1. Name your Space and add topics if desired, and then turn on Record Space by swiping the button to the right. If necessary, read the details about recording your space and tap Got it.

  1. When you're ready, tap Start now and host your Space.
  2. At the end of your Space, tap End at the top right of the Space window, then tap Yes, end to confirm.
  3. In the recording pop-up window, you have the option to edit the start time of your recording (handy for eliminating dead air before the talking starts). Tap the three-dot menu and choose Edit start time. Then play the recording and position the drag bar at the bottom of the window to where you'd like to start the recording. When you're satisfied with the start time, tap Set start time above the slider.

  1. Tap Share and then choose how to send a link to the recording to others — you can send a DM, tweet a link, or send it other ways, such as via text message.

How to download a Twitter Space audio recording

If you want to download your audio rather than just have a link to the audio, you can do that by requesting an archive of your Twitter data using either the mobile app or the Twitter website in a browser.

  1. Tap your profile icon in the top-left corner on mobile, or click the More... option on the left-hand side of the desktop website, and then choose Settings and privacy.

After ending a Space, you need to go to Settings and privacy to request a copy of the audio.

  1. Click or tap Your account and then click or tap Download an archive of your data.
  2. If you do this from a web browser, you'll get a confirmation that the request has been received, and it may take up to 24 hours to receive the data. On the mobile app, you'll need to log into the mobile browser on your phone to complete the request.
  3. Within a day or so, you will receive a Twitter notification with a link to download the archived data. Download the ZIP file to your computer and find the audio file in the Data/Spaces_media folder.
