Kuba Technologies, a South African digital platform that connects smaller businesses to large corporations, has launched online courses to cater for workers facing retrenchment due to COVID-19.

The courses are also open to entrepreneurs with innovative business ideas whose townships have been negatively impacted by the pandemic.

The financial literacy course will cover lessons on saving, money management, and prudent budgeting.

Kuba Technologies was founded in 2017 by Jacques Sibomana. It was created to unlock the potential of small businesses across Africa by serving as a digital platform that allows corporate entities to partner with small businesses.

Commenting on the courses, Sibomana stated that, “the online training will see thousands of entrepreneurs gaining vital business knowledge and access to Kuba’s GrowMyBiz tool kits that will help business owners scale to profit in an e-commerce environment.”

An official statement from Kuba Technologies also explains the business model of the company: “At Kuba Technologies, we believe the key to South Africa’s survival is in creating sustainable micro-enterprises, with turnkey support to see retrenched and unemployed South Africans starting a small business for sustenance and to create employment within their communities. Setting up a small business gives people the freedom to be their own bosses and use their passion and previous experience to create something new.”

The company is also hoping other organisations and institutions get on board to support the initiative.

With less than R15000 an individual can get access to Kuba's e-procurement platform offering business training, and a starter kit consisting of a business bank account, website, registered company, flyers, and business cards.
