A local courier service in South Africa known as The Courier Guy, has launched an app that makes customer pick-ups and deliveries more convenient.

The app is referred to as “Pudo”, which is the short form of “Pick Up, Drop Off”. The system allows users to send parcels at a central locker area which has security and surveillance to ensure its safety.

Customers can book a service by selecting a locker, filling in the online waybill, and choosing the correct box size.

They can also choose a delivery option which is: locker to door, door to locker or locker to locker.

From that point, couriers then pick up the parcel and delivers it directly to the recipient or another locker location

If the package is too large or doesn’t get collected by the recipient within 36 hours, it is then transferred to a Pudo kiosk or depot instead of a locker.

Users can also choose to send the package directly to a Pudo kiosk or depot for collection.

The system also aims to reduce human contact since there is little in-person handoff of parcels.

Currently Pudo has 300 lockers across the country, with the aim to roll out 1000 lockers by mid-2021.

In a statement, The Courier Guy Managing Director, Stephen Gleisner, said that, “we are increasing our contactless Pudo locker system network to have lockers across the country so that even if you are in Mthatha, Paarl or Thohoyandou, you will be able to send your parcels to your friends and family at any given moment”.
