In a bid to encourage hand washing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a solar-powered hand washing basin has been invented.

Made from locally acquired materials, Mr. Richard Kwarteng and Mr. Jude Osei are the brains behind the innovation.

According to Mr. Kwarteng, the solar powered basin was recycled from a barrel locally called ‘Ankera’ and has a solar system installation that pumps water.

“It is a dual system” he explained. It has sensors that recognize the hand and releases the soap in a span of 25 seconds, he added.

In addition, it has an alarm system constantly beeping to alert the individual that the water is about to flow or stop.

The young inventors called on the government to support their initiative so it can be

placed at vantage places across the country.

They also encouraged Ghanaians to observe personal hygiene and stay indoors at all times.
