ABSA Partners Ghana Tech Lab To Launch Free Advisory Portal To Aid Startups

Amalgamated Banks of South Africa (ABSA) has partnered Ghana Tech Lab to launch Startup BAS (Startup Business Advisory Service), a free advisory portal to support startups.
The portal was launched on the theme, “The Need For A Business Support System For Ghanaian Startups.”
The portal is designed to bridge the gap between startups and business development coaches where they can receive support and free business advisories to grow their businesses from the early stage to the growth stage.
The initiative is aimed at combating and mitigating the impact COVID-19 has inflicted on Ghanaian businesses and to ensure their growth.

Ecosystem Lead, Ghana Tech Lab, Mr. Kwabena Owusu stated that the website will pave the way for the startups to get access to free mentorship and consultation services.
He added that, ‘‘startups are liable to receiving support and funding from investors through the portal’’.

Launching the portal, Miss Audrey Abaka, a representative of ABSA stated that partnering the organisation is as a result of the training and skills the company equips startups with.
She stated that the main objective is ‘‘to serve as a support system for SMEs financially, by managing their bank accounts, charging zero tariff on every transaction they make and giving them funding’’.
She explained that the businesses must have been in operation for three years during which they may have learned to manage the business properly, which makes them viable for support.
She emphasized on the need to make every business transaction through the bank and encouraged startups to research and network as it is a necessary factor for business growth.
The Startup BAS was initially operating in Accra and gained a lot of traction with most startups in various regions booking for consultations during the pilot in July this year. The initiative will operate in every region in partnership with 13 partner hubs across the country regions.
