Green Cold Chain Enterprise Akofresh has emerged as part of the ten winners of the maiden edition of the OpEX Prize Competition.

The OpEx prize competition is a business competition launched to unearth and sponsor young Ghanaian Tech entrepreneurs or “Techpreneurs” who use technology and have a business model that can be ‘scaled’.

The Competition covers the thematic areas of Finance, Agriculture, Health, and Education to give young Ghanaians the opportunity to leverage technology for wealth creation.

After a series of elimination rounds, a final pitch and interview sessions, Akofresh emerged as winners out of 130 applicants.

In March, Digital Times reported that Akofresh had won the Fishbowl Challenge. “Their business concept aimed to eradicate post-harvest loss through their innovative preservation technology and give farmers in Akomadan the bargaining power,” explained Mathias Charles Yabe, the co-founder.

Owing to the win, Akofresh will receive funding and a makerspace that will serve as a centre providing elite facilities and a conducive environment for six months. In addition, the startup will also be provided with experts who will support them within that duration.

The OpEx prize is supported by Dalex Finance and the council for scientific and industrial research(CSIR), Institute for Scientific and Technological Information(INSTI) as well as Technology Development and Transfer Centre(TDTC)
