After winning the Fishbowl Challenge and the OpEx Competition, Ghanaian agritech startup Akofresh has rolled out its online marketplace for fresh farm produce and to announce its presence.
The startup says the platform will give them a good brand name, attract investors and vouch for its credibility.
Founded this year, Akofresh is Green Cold Chain Enterprise aiming to eradicate post-harvest losses and give farmers the bargaining power.
To achieve this, they will specifically be using a solar-powered cooling technology currently under construction in China and will be ready for use in two months.
Speaking to Digital Times Africa, Mathias Yabe Charles, co-founder, stated: “this year, we are focusing on the storage aspect of the project. Our cooling storage technology is still under construction, and we are expecting to receive it in two months.”
“In the future, maybe next year, we are looking at bridging the gap between farmers and access to markets. A portion of our website will serve as a medium for connecting farmers to ready markets.”

Akofresh has signed ten farmers for the cooling project. Each farmer will pay 2gh per crate and the number of days they store the crops with payment. The price is expecting to increase to 3gh next year.
Mathias also tells Digital Times that they are mulling over the idea of partnering with Tomato Processing Companies or becoming the Processing Company itself.
He says that the partnership will resolve the issue of an excess harvest of tomatoes and over retention of the crops.
