Urban mobility defines people’s movements towards daily activities such as work, shopping, and leisure, registered in an urban space. Mobility is necessary for exercising all our fundamental rights (rights to work, housing, education, and health).
Therefore, it constitutes an indispensable asset for the socio-economic development of a country. According to the World Bank, Ghana’s urban population has more than tripled, rising from 4 million to nearly 14 million people and is expected to grow more over the following decades. More and more people are owning vehicles leading to higher levels of congestion.
The means of transportations used in Ghana for mobility are trotros, personal cars. Unfortunately, those means are detrimental to the environment due to gas emissions and are becoming less efficient due to congestion.
To tackle these issues, some companies like EV4Africa and Solar Taxi have developed electric cars that use electricity or solar power to function. That helps in reducing gas emissions. Also, to prevent congestion, some ride hailing like EHYEN, Uber, Bolt offer affordable prices so that fewer people can move easily without necessarily owning a car.
What is the role of Technology in Driving Accra's Urban Transport Future, and how sustainable are those new solutions?
Startup Accra is organizing a webinar on Zoom, the 1st November 2021. The previous question will be discussed with Jorge Appiah, CEO of Solar Taxi, Clenard Bawa Ayadina, Managing Director of EHYEN Transport, and Spencer T. Koryanke, Founder of EV4Africa.Do you want to learn more about the future of Urban Mobility in Ghana? Register here: bit.ly/Urbantalks
