Kumasi Hive, a non-profit organization that trains Ghanaian youth in technical, entrepreneurial, and digital skills, virtually launched their online learning platform on Friday.

The launch was centred on the theme; “Why Ghana should embrace local online learning platforms using the Hive Academy as an example”.

The platform, called the Hive Academy, will serve as both an extension of the training programs offered at Kumasi Hive and for people from all walks of life to learn and acquire relevant skills from the comfort of their homes at their own pace.

Mrs. Adelaide Asante, the Board Chair of Kumasi Hive, Chirag Shamdasani of Mastercard Foundation, and Miss Benedicta Naa Odarkor Ablateye, Community Associate of Kumasi Hive, were panelists who engaged in a discussion was on the theme.

The discussion was on the relevance of online learning platforms as well as how Ghanaians and Africans as a whole can leverage these platforms for personal and economic development.

“The pace of change we are experiencing is faster than it has ever been and COVID-19 has accelerated even further. To keep up with this rapid evolving world, young people are beginning to have the mindset and ability to engage in online learning beyond the traditional setting of the classroom”, said Mr. Chirag.

“Its accessibility, flexibility and affordability makes that a realistic possibility, so online learning is of critical importance if we are, as not only a nation but a global workforce, move in the right direction”, he further noted.

As part of the launch, there were demonstrations on how to access courses on the platform, promotional packages available, future updates to be incorporated on the platform, and an interactive session to address enquiries from the audience.

Programmes currently available on Hive Academy include, Graphic Design, Freelance Entrepreneurship, Game Development, Software Development, Music and Design Thinking.
