LinkedIn Introduces New Audio Clip Feature To Aid In Name Pronunciation

July 8, 2020, 1:43 p.m.

LinkedIn has rolled out a new feature on its user profiles; the option to upload a 10-second audio clip telling others how to pronounce your name.

The recordings can only be added through LinkedIn’s mobile apps on Android and iOS. It is however possible to access a playback on both mobile and desktop.

The feature is designed to minimize awkward or unprofessional mistakes when speaking to contacts for the first time.

Joseph Akoni, a product manager at LinkedIn who helped develop the feature stated that “Everyone, including myself, makes mistakes when pronouncing other people’s names. I’ve encountered this personally with my Nigerian middle name, there’s a 99% chance someone won’t pronounce it correctly on the first try.”

Even though people have reported seeing tests of the feature for a while now, LinkedIn says it is now rolling out the option to all of its 690 users this month.

To use this feature, head to your profile on your mobile app. Click “View Profile”, “Edit” and then “Add Name Pronunciation”. Step by step instructions can be found here.
