Netflix To Offer Free Subscription Plan To Kenyan Users
Sept. 22, 2021, 4:50 p.m.
Netflix is launching a free mobile plan to users aged 18 or above in Kenya as the global streaming giant looks to boost growth in the African market.
The free plan, accessible on Android phones and ad-free, will include Netflix movies and TV series, as well as certain programs licensed from third parties.
The company told Reuters that it is making about one-quarter of its movies and television shows catalog available to users in the free plan in the East African nation.
“If you’ve never watched Netflix before — and many people in Kenya haven’t — this is a great way to experience our service,” Cathy Conk, director of Product Innovation at Netflix, wrote in a blog post.

Or
“And if you like what you see, it’s easy to upgrade to one of our paid plans so you can enjoy our full catalog on your TV or laptop as well.”
Furthermore, the new plan is part of Netflix’s aim to expand outside of more crowded regions like the United States, where new subscriber signups have stalled at a time when competition for online audiences has increased.
