Twitter has announced on its Twitter Support Account that it is testing a new feature that will be privy to some iOS users.
Called the “Downvote” option, Twitter says they are testing the option to understand the types of replies users may find relevant in a conversation.
“Some of you on iOS may see different options to up or down vote on replies. We're testing this to understand the types of replies you find relevant in a convo, so we can work on ways to show more of them.”

The company says the downvotes are not public, while upvotes will be shown as likes indicating that the test is for internal purposes.
The company's chief product officer Kayvon Beykpour first confirmed Twitter was "exploring" the idea of adding a dislike feature last year.
However, Twitter in its post stated that the experiment is all but a test for research at the moment, and the feature is not a dislike button. The company also stated that downvotes will be visible to only you, and votes will not change the order of replies.
